Scientists from Harvard University have created an innovative surface material that can prevent ice from forming, even at temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees. Using millions of tiny bristles, the surface stops water from spreading and freezing as easily as on a smooth surface such as tarmac. This technology could eventually pave the way for ice-resistant roads, but it remains to be seen if it is a cost-effective option. The science team has now started testing the technology in real world environments.
